Boys Varsity Cross-Country
|Governor Thomas Johnson High School||8th|
|Brunswick Invitational||of 11 large school teams|
The Gov. Thomas Johnson Boys Cross Country team opened their 2017 season in strong fashion at the Brunswick Invitational at Brunswick HS on Saturday morning. The day brought atypical cold conditions for early September as well as a soaking rain which made for some unsure footing but exciting racing. The boys were led by Jr. Daveen Bavari who finished 7th out of 77 large school runners with a personal best time of 17:07 for the 3 mile course. Bavari was able to hold off defending 3A State Champion Ryan Lockett of Poolesville HS, which bodes well for Bavari's season. Bavari was followed by Sr. Josh Goodrich (43rd Pl.), Sr. Lane Spurlock (53rd Pl.), Sr. Dylan Poppert (55th Pl.), and Sr. Isaiah Myers (57th Pl.). Overall the boys 8th out of 11 large schools with 215 pts.
The Patriots return to action on Tuesday, September 12th at Home in the Intercity Challenge against St. John's Catholic Prep and Tuscarora HS. The first race begins at 2:45pm.
