Boys Varsity Cross-Country
|Governor Thomas Johnson High School||2nd|
|Intercity Challenge||of 3 teams|
The Governor Thomas Johnson HS Boys XC team hosted their lone home meet of the season on a warm and humid Tuesday afternoon. The Patriots welcomed fellow city schools Tuscarora HS and St. John's Catholic Prep to the on-campus course and the meet proved to be a competitive one. The Patriots were narrowly outdistanced by team champion Tuscarora by a score of 25-31. The Patriots defeated the Vikings of St. Johns by a score of 31-82.
Thomas Johnson was led by Jr. Daveen Bavari who finished in 2nd place with a 5k personal best time of 17:51 on the challenging, hilly course. Bavari led for much of the first two miles but was unable to respond to a strong move made by defending champion Nick Hildebrandt of Tuscarora HS. Hildebrandt won with a course record time of 17:42. Bavari was followed next by two Tuscarora runners and then TJ's 2, 3, 4 runners came across the line in 5th, 6th, and 7th place respectively. Sr. Josh Goodrich, Sr. David Charlebois, and Jr. JP Carmona finished within 5 seconds of each other. Sr. Isaiah Myers rounded out the Patriots' top 5 with an 11th place finish. The Patriots will compete again on Saturday in the Hood College Invitational held at Utica Park in Frederick.
The day also served as Senior Day for the Patriots five graduating Seniors. Pictured below from Left to Right are Clara Bossaller, Isaiah Myers, Land Spurlock, David Charlebois, and Josh Goodrich.
