Boys Varsity Cross-Country
|Governor Thomas Johnson High School||8th|
|Mountain Run||of 14 teams|
The Governor Thomas Johnson Boys Cross Country team ran a strong race at the Mountain Run hosted at Woodsboro Park. The meet was postponed by one day due to sweltering conditions the day before. The move was a smart one as race time temperatures were more like a fall day. The Patriots took advantage of the cooler conditions and finished in 8th place with 208 points. Many GTJ runners posted numerous personal records for the challenging and hilly Woodsboro Course.
The Patriots were once again led by Jr. Daveen Bavari who finished in 16th place with a sub-18 minute clocking of 17:59. Bavari's time was nearly 30 seconds faster than he ran at this meet last year. Bavari was followed by Jr. JP Carmona who ran his best race of the season to date. Carmona just missed breaking 19 minutes with a 19:01 and earned 31st place. Carmona was followed by a trio of seniors in a span of 31 seconds. Sr. Josh Goodrich, Sr. Isaiah Myers, and Sr. David Charlebois finished in 49th, 53rd, and 59th place respectively. Sr. Lane Spurlock and So. Atticus Leibman rounded out the top 7 for the Patriots.
The boys team finished just behind county foes Middletown (148pts.) and Oakdale (150pts.) and were able to outdistance Walkersville (239pts.), Tuscarora (246pts.), and Brunswick (401pts.). The Patriots will return to action on Saturday, October 7th at the Don Stoner Invitational held at Smithsburg HS.
